Patrick Mahomes will never forget how Tom Brady made him feel when he made his NFL debut

Only two quarterbacks have been able to defeat fellow Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes three times in his successful young career, one being his opponent this Sunday, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and the other the most decorated quarterback in history, Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That is why it is interesting to talk about the relationship between Mahomes and Brady, who famously faced each other in Super Bowl LV with victory for the more veteran of the two. In general the particular series between them is 3-3 and the admiration is mutual, as evidenced by the great revelation that has made the top candidate for MVP this year.

The experience of seeing Tom Brady in the eyes of Patrick Mahomes

As it turns out, Mahomes revealed to NBC Sports’ Hayley Lewis that Brady reached out to him minutes after the Chiefs’ Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and this time, in an appearance on the New Heights podcast he made his first close-up with his childhood idol public knowledge.

“It’s crazy, it was a game I didn’t even play in,” Patrick Mahomes said. “It was the first game we played we went to New England on Thursday night opening. They dropped the banner, all this different type of stuff. And I remember running out in the field and being like, “Holy… This is the NFL…'”

When did Patrick Mahomes first saw Tom Brady?

The Super Bowl LIV MVP is referring to the Kickoff game of the 2017 season where Kansas City soundly defeated the New England Patriots, who were defending their Super Bowl LI championship when they defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime.

“Obviously, we had a heck of a game, Kareem Hunt had a heck of a game and Alex (Smith), and so we ended up winning that game. To me, that was the first moment of being like, ‘Man, this is the NFL.’ I watched Tom Brady my entire life. So, I’m like we’re playing Tom Brady, the New England Patriots.”
