Mbappe's future up in the air again: Four months left to exercise option for one more year at PSG

Last May, Kylian Mbappe renewed his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, leaving Real Madrid in the lurch.

The Frenchman signed a contract until 2025 for 50 million euros net per season, with a signing bonus of 100 million, according to L’Equipe.

However, his renewal was not for three seasons. Kylian extended his contract with the formula of two seasons plus an optional extra year for the player.

According to L’Equipe, Mbappe has four months left to exercise that option for an extra year on his contract. If not, his contract will expire in 2024, opening the door for him to be free to negotiate with clubs for a free transfer next January.

PSG are working to get him to give the green light to this one more season with the club so as not to have a ‘busy’ summer in which Mbappe could be on the market again.

As in 2021, it would be their only option to cash in on a player who arrived in 2017 from Monaco, although they rejected all offers from Real Madrid at the time.

A goal a game this season

At 24, the French striker is already PSG‘s all-time top scorer (200 goals, the same as Edinson Cavani) after his brace against Marseille.

Mbappe has 29 goals in 29 games in all competitions for the Ligue 1 leaders and the Parc des Princes side are working hard to ensure that he remains their star player and does not reopen a new soap opera.

Decisive weeks lie ahead in Paris with the extension of Mbappe and Lionel Messi high on the agenda.
