Newcastle could soon repeat Bruno Guimaraes masterclass

Newcastle United could look to improve their impressive squad at St James’ Park this summer to continue their desire for dominance and a price for one of their targets has now been revealed.

What’s the latest on Newcastle’s interest in Alex Scott?

Football Insider recently reported that the Magpies are plotting a swoop for Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott and Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that the Championship side will demand a fee of up to £25m for him.

The Italian reporter has stated that there is ‘big interest’ in the Englishman and this indicates that Eddie Howe may face stiff competition for the gem’s signature.

To this point, the earlier article from Football Insider claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are also in the race for his services.

Could Alex Scott be the next Bruno Guimaraes?

There is little doubt that adding some depth in the centre of the pitch would be massively beneficial for the Magpies this summer, especially after selling Jonjo Shelvey in the January transfer window.

Sean Longstaff, Joelinton, and Bruno Guimaraes have been occupying the key roles in midfield but should any of those players suffer injuries, Eddie Howe only really has Elliot Andersen and Joe Willock to lean on with reasonable experience of his style of play and on-pitch connections with the current first team.

As a result, the signing of Scott could give Howe a young player who could be the second-coming of Guimaraes if the dynamo can continue to develop and thrive at St James’ Park.

In the Premier League this season, the Brazilian has completed 55% of his dribbles, assisted three goals, and made 2.2 tackles per game – showcasing his box-to-box talent for the Magpies.

Meanwhile, over 32 Championship appearances, the 19-year-old English ace has registered four assists, successfully completed 50% of his dribbles, and created two big chances, as well as averaging one key pass, 50.2 touches, 2.3 tackles, and 6.5 duels per game, proving that, like the Newcastle star, Scott offers both potent attacking attributes and sound defensive skills.

Bristol City’s breakout youngster has already earned high praise for his performances with Nigel Pearson hailing Scott when reflecting on the player’s progress and short career so far:

“He’s just a very unique talent and he’s got a very impressive temperament. I think he’s destined for the very top but football dictates to you what is going to happen because you can’t always be in control of your own destiny.”

“Alex Scott will continue to progress and be a top player. He also knows he has the humility that he has to do it for us while he is here and he just enjoys playing football.”

With that being said, if Newcastle can secure the signature of Scott in the summer it would be a great opportunity to bring in a player who could mirror Guimaraes and potentially follow in his footsteps in midfield for the Magpies.

Although it would be a risk, as they would be signing a teenager who is yet to play in the top-flight, the youngster’s impressive form for Bristol City this term suggests that it is one worth taking in the summer.
