Carragher slams Casemiro but says horror stats underline Man United star’s importance

Jamie Carragher slated Casemiro for his performance at Liverpool as some stats shed light on the Manchester United star’s shoddy performance at Anfield.

In a match that will go down in Premier League history, Manchester United suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Liverpool, with the Red Devils conceding six of them in the second half.

Like many of his Man United teammates, Casemiro had a shocker against Liverpool

Not a single United player turned up with them putting out shocking diaplays with Casemiro having an uncharacteristically bad performance.

And speaking on Sky Sport’s Monday Night Football, Carragher tore into the Brazilian, with the Brazilian midfielder’s personal stats not making for good reading at all.

A passing accuracy of just 62 per cent, his worst in the Premier League to date, Casemiro also failed to win a single ball in the defensive third and failed to complete a single tackle.

Although Carragher admitted that Casemiro’s struggles on Sunday further demonstrate his importance to Man United.

The ex-Liverpool defender said: “He’s been one of the best players of the season. But what it also shows us is how important he is to Manchester United.

“Not playing at Manchester City, they concede six. Not playing at Arsenal, conceding three and getting battered.

“And basically not being at the races at Anfield and Manchester United concede seven.

“So what I’m actually showing here is yes, this is a negative piece. But it shows how important Casemiro is for Manchester United when he is on his game.

“But he was nowhere near it. He was miles off it.”

There is no doubt that the former Real Madrid star’s influence has been a major part in Erik ten Hag’s rebuild at Old Trafford.

United have been in fine form this campaign, and prior to Sunday they had lost just once since the World Cup concluded.

During that run of matches, Casemiro had been a stellar part of the midfield – regularly mopping up trouble in front of the back four and then launching attacks by getting the ball up to the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst.

Casemiro has the chance to make amends for his performance straight away when United take on a familiar opponent in Real Betis on Thursday in the Europa League.

While a Real Madrid player, he faced Betis 12 times and won seven times, drawing three and losing two.
