After a horror campaign, the Melbourne Stars have turned to a former international coach to lead them next season, reports DANIEL CHERNY.
Former England men’s coach Peter Moores has been appointed the new coach of the Big Bash League’s Melbourne Stars.
Moores, 60, has been chosen to replace the outgoing David Hussey, who left the post he held for four years to take over as Victorian head of men’s cricket.
Moores, 60, edged former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson. Ex-Australian white-ball captain Cameron White had also been a candidate for the role.
Moores coach England across two separate stints, from 2007 to 2009 and then 2014 to 2015.
His first stint ended following a much-publicised falling out with Kevin Pietersen.
Moores has also coached in county cricket and in Pakistan.
The Stars are coming off a horror season in which they finished a clear bottom of the table after captain Glenn Maxwell broke his leg before the start of the campaign. Club leading wicket-taker Adam Zampa is set to be traded to the Melbourne Renegades for Sam Harper when the BBL signing embargo is lifted.
Having never won the BBL title, the Stars last made the finals in the 2019-20 season.
