Spurs close to striking deal with Raya – but won’t pay Brentford’s asking price

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on an agreement with David Raya over a summer move.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the north London side are on the cusp of agreeing personal terms with a long-term contract on the table.

While the Spanish goalkeeper is keen on the move, no agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs regarding a transfer fee.

Brentford are demanding £40million for the 27-year-old, as they look to cash in on him with Raya having just a year left on his deal in west London.

However Spurs are claimed to consider that sum too high and will look to drive down the price.

Speaking last month, Frank said: “We know the rumours about Raya not being here next season, but right now he is here.

“You all know the price – £40m – and absolutely it’s realistic.

“I think it is too much, in general, the money that is paid in football.

“But in the current market and at his level, he has been at least a top-four keeper in the Premier League this season.

“If you look at those players, in such a crucial position, then I am not in doubt.”

Raya arrived at Brentford in 2019 after joining from Blackburn for a fee of £3m.

Since then, he has made 161 appearances for the Bees.

Should he make the move to join Spurs, he will likely replace club captain Hugo Lloris, who has admitted he wants to leave.
