Arnie ‘in the frame’ for surprise Scottish gig as interest in Aussie boss ramps up

Socceroos boss Graham Arnold has been sensationally linked with the vacancy at Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

The Edinburgh outfit sacked Lee Johnson after a brutal set of results including a 5-0 hammering in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier against Aston Villa and a 3-2 loss against Hibernian.

With Johnson’s 15-month tenure now over, Hibernian are on the lookout for a new coach.

According to Sky Sports, Arnold is “in the frame” for the Hibernian gig as the club draws up a shortlist of managerial targets but are yet to approach any managerial targets.

The report also claims Arnold is “attracting interest” from two clubs in the English Championship.

Should Arnold take over at Hibernian, he would have three familiar faces already at the club in the form of Socceroos duo Martin Boyle and Jimmy Jeggo as well as fellow Aussie Lewis Miller.

Hibernian are yet to register a point from their three games in the Scottish Premiership and sit in last place, although they did make it through to the second round of the Scottish League Cup.

Arnold gained plenty of admirers across the football world after he led Australia to a stunning run to the last 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

It equalled the Socceroos’ deepest run at a World Cup when they achieved the same feat in 2006 but were sent packing in the round of 16 by eventual champions Italy.

Arnold’s last club gig was in 2018 with A-League powerhouse Sydney FC where he lead the club to a championship in 2017 and their first Australia Cup win in the same year.

The 60-year-old is preparing for the Socceroos’ upcoming fixture against Mexico in Dallas on September 10.
