On a late summer evening in New York City, Esther González was ready to greet her new home — with a Spanish flair, of course. Between cups of sangria and passed tapas on Thursday, the striker chatted with media at Mercado Little Spain about her move to the National Women’s Soccer League. For the World Cup winner, coming to play in the United States, in what she considers a “top league” filled with incredible talent from across the world, is a dream fulfilled at just the right time.

“I feel like I’m at my peak physically, mentally, and with my experience and maturity. It was the right moment for me to experience something new,” the 30-year-old forward said. “I came to bring out the best of myself, push myself to the limit and demonstrate on the pitch.”

In just two weeks, González is already feeling the chemistry with her teammates and feels secure in her decision to join Gotham. The striker is locked in on becoming an impact player for Gotham and making a name for herself in the NWSL.
