Early Penalty Looms in Rain-Laden Match vs. Lipscomb – University of North Florida Athletics

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida women’s soccer (3-5-2, 1-2-0 ASUN) put forth a stalwart effort, outshooting the ASUN preseason favorite Lipscomb Bison (7-4-0, 3-0-0 ASUN) in a rain-filled evening, but an early penalty kick fell in favor of the visitors during UNF’s 1-0 loss Thursday, Sept. 21.

A ninth-minute penalty kick Lipscomb the advantage before the match was paused due to lightning in the area in the 23rd minute. After a 55-minute delay, UNF pushed the enveloped and create multiple looks at an equalizer. A point- blank save from keeper Sarah Barrentine in the 53rd minute kept the Ospreys within a score. But, Lipscomb was able to wind down the clock in the closing minutes to hold the slimmest of margins.

  • First Half: Kelli Beiller was brought down in the box in the 8th minute and converted the eventual penalty to give Lipscomb the lead … moments later, Chloe Lynch had a shot from outside of the box saved by keeper Sara Kile … Faith Adams had an attempt in the 12th minute saved by Sarah Barrentine … in th 22nd minute, Gabby Daly made a run down the right wing finding Lynch on the cross whose volley skimmed just wide … the game was paused in the 23rd minute due to lightning in the surrounding area … good link up play after the restart between Daly and Lynch saw a shot from Lynch tipped over the crossbar for an Ospreys corner … in the 39th minute Haynes Grant found Sophia Goetz, but her shot was saved.
  • Second Half: The Ospreys provided the pressure early with Lynch forcing a corner in the opening minutes … in the 46th minute, the ball fell to Avery Raimondo just outside of the box who ripped a shot just over the crossbar … Beiller reached the end of a cross in the 53rd minute but was denied by Barrentine who made a instinctual stop to keep Lipscomb at bay … just seconds after coming on, Liz Anne Fogarty got some space and sent one on goal, forcing a fingertip save from Kile to force an Osprey corner kick … Kile endured another good look from Zara Siassi and Averi Walraven, allowing Lipscomb to leave on top.
