Noel Gallagher picks De Bruyne over Beckham and states what he needs to win Ballon d’Or

Since signing for City in 2015, De Bruyne has been one of best players in the Premier League.

The 32-year-old’s efforts in midfield have guided Pep Guardiola’s side to a five league titles, as well as last season’s Champions League.

Beckham was also one to lift the famous trophy and shined for both Manchester United and Real Madrid.

However, when asked on talkSPORT Drive who’s better between him and De Bruyne, City fan Gallagher chose his club’s midfield maestro.

“Me? Well, De Bruyne. As good as Beckham was… I’m obviously slightly biased but you’re not biased Darren [Bent].

“He’s the one player I’ve seen in my lifetime where he would make a pass and you’d have to wait until you get home if you’ve been at the match to see it because you don’t know how he’s done it.

“Becks was never that guy that would take out six defenders with a pass, he was the best crosser of a ball we’d ever seen at that point, but I’m going to say De Bruyne.”

Gallagher was asked by Andy Goldstein if he would put Beckham in the world-class category: “Well it depends how many people are in it, doesn’t it?. These things are a bit mad anyway.”

A Champions League final masterclass could land De Bruyne the Ballon d'Or

The same question was then proposed for De Bruyne, with the music legend’s response hinting he’s close to winning the Ballon d’Or.

“Yes, for sure. De Bruyne has only got to do one more thing in his career, he has got to get to another Champions League final and dominate.

“For everybody in the world that’s all that’s missing, he’s been to two Champions League finals now and has come off in both of them. For him to be a Ballon d’Or winner, he would have to get to a Champions League final this year and absolutely destroy it.

“It’s more than possible and it would cap things off for him. The two of you know as well as I do, that guy can do things that no one else can do with a football at pace, under pressure, in the big games.”
