Arsenal fans rub salt in wounds of Tottenham after eventful defeat to Chelsea

Arsenal fans wasted no time in reminding Tottenham that there ‘will only be one Invincibles’ as Spurs’ unbeaten run came to an end.

Ange Postecoglou’s side lost 4-1 to former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in a match that saw them have two men, Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero, sent off.

Dejan Kulusevski’s opener was cancelled out by a Cole Palmer penalty before Nicolas Jackson scored a second half hat-trick, marking the end of Tottenham’s unbeaten league run this season so far.

It won’t come as a surprise to anyone, then, that their noisy north London neighbours were waiting in the wings to rub salt in the wounds of their rivals.

Arsenal are the only club in the Premier League era to have gone a whole season unbeaten in the league, with that 2003/04 Premier League winning team being known as ‘The Invincibles’ ever since.

Now, Gooners are taking great joy in knowing their record won’t be broken by their rivals this term, given Spurs were the only side in the league left to have gone unbeaten in 2023/24.

“For the 20th straight year, there will be only one Invincibles,” one Arsenal fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another said: “Never to be repeated. Happy Invincibles Day.”

A third simply posted a photo of Wenger lifting the gold Premier League trophy, which was specially made to celebrate his side’s unbeaten season.

The Frenchman was presented the trophy as a parting gift from the club after his last home game as manager in May 2018.

Tottenham’s loss to Chelsea will go down as one of the most dramatic games of the season, if not in Premier League history.

Two red cards, two major Tottenham injury blows, four disallowed goals, a penalty and a second half hat-trick were all packed into an incredible game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
