Havertz scores for Germany as a left-back in ‘great idea’ from Nagelsmann

Kai Havertz may find life tough at Arsenal but he has scored once again for Germany, even when playing at left-back.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Gunners this season since signing from their London rivals Chelsea.

He has scored just one goal for the club in 19 appearances, although has been playing more as a midifielder under Mikel Arteta.

Havertz spent most of his Chelsea career in the attack and has had to adapt to a fairly new position at Arsenal.

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann took things to another level on Saturday though as he started him at left-back against Turkey.

Speaking beforehand, the German boss said “Kai won’t always be in this position.

Havertz was on target for his country though when playing in a new position

“I have a great idea, he’s an exceptionally good footballer. This is a very good option. He won’t always play as a classic left-back”.

Despite such the eye-opening decision, Havertz took just five minutes to find the back of the net in the friendly match.

He rolled Leroy Sane’s low pass into the back of the net to score his 14th international goal for Germany in 41 appearances.

While he did give a penalty away late in the game, supporters were impressed with what they saw.

Arsenal fans on social media were quick to react with one on X saying: “HAVERTZ scores the opening goal for GERMANY This may be the confidence booster that Kai needs WELL DONE KAI.”

“MY GOAT BEST LEFT BACK IN THE WORLD,” added an excited second.

A third said: “That’s a magnificent goal! Wont find many better finishes than that! Puskas nomination.”

“The follow up to the ‘should we move Zinchenko to left 8’ is gonna be should we move Kai to LB,” said a fourth.

Unfortunately for Germany, the international friendly didn’t end as well as it started with Turkey running out 3-2 winners.
