IPL 2024: Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has begun to get its deserved attention as we draw close to the World Cup 2023 climax. Subsequently, all eyeballs will be locked on the IPL 2024 Auction, which is set to be held on December 19 in Dubai. The player retention window for the teams has been extended to November 26 and all 10 IPL teams will look to do their comprehensive strategic planning as to who they want to retain and release ahead of the Tata IPL 2024 Auction.

Five times IPL champions, Mumbai Indians, have been a real entertainer for over the years. Although things didn’t work out for them at the inception of the IPL back in 2008, they managed to flip it around with their brilliance as they got some exposure in the coming few years. Their fortunes changed in 2013 when they first held the IPL’s glorious cup under the young leadership of Rohit Sharma. Since then it has been an uphill drive for the team in Blue & Gold.

The last season of the IPL was touted to be MI’s season as they had congregated one of the best players from around the world. The mix of experienced seniors and the energetic young players really made a formidable group. However, things didn’t go smoothly as MI lost a couple of their players to injuries.

While the youngsters held the team together with this superhit show in the IPL 2023, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer (for the second half of IPL 2023) really became an issue for them.

The likes of Nehal Wadhera, Tilak Varma, Dewald Bravis and Akash Madhwal among others had a memorable outing. All the aforementioned have certainly shown potential and the team is locking on them as the future superstars for the team.

While all these players will be retained by the franchise in the IPL 2024 Auction, a couple of the 26-men squad will be released from the side.

Mumbai Indians’ retained player list will be long as it will be just a regular auction. MI would look to keep the balance of the side similar to what they kept in the last edition. The core of the team will remain fixed with Rohit Sharma, leading the franchise, and Jasprit Bumrah acting as the deputy.

The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Tim David and Cameron Green will form the core, besides Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. The rest of the squad will be formed around them only.

There is some uncertainty over the retention of English pacer Jofra Archer, who hasn’t managed to pull off an IPL campaign for Mumbai Indians (MI) so far. Mumbai had bagged Archer’s services during the IPL 2022 Auction for a whopping INR 8 Crores. As an immediate impact, MI had sacrificed their IPL 2022 campaign with the hope that Archer would be fit to play in the IPL 2023. However, things have not been as smooth as everyone would have liked as he missed half of the IPL 2023 as well due to injury concerns.

The list is quite short as MI would like to have most of their players in the squad for IPL 2024. The likes of Jofra Archer (Uncertain), Chris Jordan, Duan Jansen, Tristin Stubbs and Arshad Khan will be the likely players who might face an axe.
