Manchester United are yet to get their money’s worth for ‘hugely disappointing’ Antony who is still without a goal contribution this campaign.
That is according to talkSPORT host and ex-Chelsea striker Tony Casacrino, who has named the 23-year-old as his ‘flop of the season’.
The Brazilian winger has struggled for form since arriving at the Theatre of Dreams from Ajax for a deal rising to £85million last year.
He is yet to chip in with either a goal or assist in 12 outings this term in all competitions, with United fans even losing patience with him.
Supporters could be heard cheering at Craven Cottage when he was brought off in the 1-0 win away at Fulham earlier this month.
United legend Andy Cole recently stated that Antony would drive him ‘absolutely mad’ as he questioned what he brings to the Red Devils.
Meanwhile cult hero Dimitar Berbatov has told the player to stop doing ‘stupid things’ if he wishes to remain part of Erik ten Hag‘s plans.
And now Cascarino has criticised Antony over his dismal displays when speaking on the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
Asked by co-host Natalie Sawyer to give his ‘Flop of the Season’ award so far, he gave the unwanted honour to the 16-cap Selecao international.
Criticising the ex-Sao Paulo star, Cascarino said: “He’s been hugely disappointing.
“For a player that’s been in the Premier League for a year and not seemingly improved from where he was last year, I would probably go Antony.
“Man United need him to be a really big star for them, they paid a lot of money – £80m for him.
“He’s not lived up to that in any shape or form.”
His poor performances have led to Antony being omitted from Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers during the ongoing international break.
Antony will be hoping to end his barren spell in front of goal away at Everton next weekend – a ground he scored at last season in a 2-1 win for United.
