Another Spurs star out as injury crisis continues, but key defender to return

Alejo Veliz has become the latest addition to Ange Postecoglou’s growing injury list.

The striker is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury in their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth.

Postecoglou issued an update on his team’s current fitness list which contained both good and bad news for the squad.

He said: “Alejo, obviously, hurt his knee the other day. Had a scan on it – yeah, it’ll keep him out for a little while.

“It doesn’t require surgery, but he’ll still be out for probably a couple of months which is disappointing for him.

“He’d worked really hard to wait for his opportunity, you could see he was developing the last couple of weeks so it’s unfortunate for him.”

However, the squad could be boosted by the return of centre-back Micky van de Ven, who has been out since November due to a hamstring injury.

Postecoglou added: “Not sure about tomorrow’s game but he might be involved in the squad, it’s good to get him back.

“Obviously, he’s missed a fair bit so we’ll have to be careful with him.”

Cristian Romero and James Maddison are two other stars out injured.

Van de Ven has been out since the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea

But Postecoglou was coy on their returns.

He added: “[Maddison] is not training with us yet. As I say I won’t know until he’s back with in training with us and how he’s getting on. Cristian is still at the early stages [of his recovery].”

Tottenham vs Burnley is live on talkSPORT on Friday 5 December from 8pm.
