The Las Vegas Aces‘ Kelsey Plum has offered words to Caitlin Clark as the Iowa Hawkeyes‘ women’s basketball star is set to smash the NCAA scoring record set by Plum in 2017 before she graduated to the Women’s NBA (WNBA).

Plum departed from the NCAA with 3527 points in 139 games whilst Clark is currently looming large on the horizon with 3,424 points from 122 outings, with projections forecasting her to surpass Plum in four more games.
She would then have 13 games left to see how far she can extend the record to out-perform Plum‘s points per game rate of 25.37 but Plum has no hard feelings about the matter.
“I’m actually very grateful to pass that baton. I’m very happy for her,” Plum told ESPN’s Michael Voepel Friday. “It felt like a lot of pressure, and my identity was kind of caught up in that record.
“I hope everyone in the media takes time to understand that [Clark] is not just a basketball player but a young woman that has feelings and emotions. She carries it with grace, but there’s a lot to handle there.”
“If anything, make sure that we show her love outside of her performance. She’ll break it. I’m excited for her.”
Clark moves into second
Clark surpassed Kelsey Mitchell and Jackie Stiles to move second on the record board during a 110-74 victory of Northwestern and she is excited to break the record, which at the moment seems as though it’s a matter of when, not if.
At the moment, Clark is set to break the record on Sunday, February if she maintains a rate of over 30 points per game, but it’s most likely to happen on Thursday, February 15 against Michigan.
“I think the coolest thing is just the names that I get to be around,” Clark told reporters after the game. “Those are people that I grew up watching, especially Kelsey Plum, Brittney Griner, Kelsey Mitchell. Those are really, really great players.”
