Petr Cech showed that he’s still Chelsea through and through as he celebrated Enzo Fernandez’s late goal in the Sky Sports studio.
The former goalkeeper was a guest on Monday Night Football as he joined David Jones and Jamie Carragher for the Blues’ clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
While Palace took the lead through Jefferson Lerma’s incredible goal, two from Conor Gallagher put Chelsea 2-1 up, before Fernandez struck late on to wrap up a much-needed win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Having spent 11 years as a player for Chelsea and a further three as technical and performance advisor, there’s no doubting that Cech is an avid fan of the Blues and showed as much as he celebrated the goal.
Seeing Fernandez’s goal hit the net, Cech emphatically punched the air before raising both arms aloft and high-fiving Carragher while looking delighted.
The victory puts Chelsea into the top half of the Premier League table, however Cech’s appearance on Sky Sports was a big win for the broadcaster due to the praise he attracted.
While pundits regularly analyse attacking play, defenders and tactical details, Cech shone a much-needed light on the art of goalkeeping – most notably Dorde Petrovic and his positioning for Lerma’s first-half stunner.
Fans were loving the insight on social media, with one saying: “This was great. I watch a lot of footy but admittedly know bugger all about goalkeeping other than ‘oh, he should have saved that’. Given the level of insight we have for other positions, it’d be great to get more of this on TV!”
Another supporter wrote: “Refreshing to have a goalkeeper on the show, and the best at that!”
A third fan wrote: “Tonight has highlighted there is a genuine gap in analysis when it comes to goalkeeping.”
Meanwhile a fourth fan said: “Very good that and sort of analysis you rarely see on keepers, small thing like that makes a massive difference.”
