Following a tough loss against the Indiana Hoosiers, Iowa Hawkeyes‘ Caitlin Clark acknowledged the physicality of the opposing team disrupted their rhythm. The 86-69 defeat has diminished Iowa’s chances of clinching the Big Ten regular-season title.
Despite her prolific scoring record, Clark struggled, shooting 8-of-26 from the field and 3-of-16 from beyond the arc. Reflecting on the game, she credited Indiana’s strong defensive effort for her team’s challenges.
Caitlin Clark’s classy response to uncalled for diss from LSU’s Kim Mulkey
“Being physical, face-guarding me, denying me the ball, threw a lot of different people at me,” Clark said.
“Kind of pushed me off my spots, got me a little deeper than I wanted to be. Threw a little box-and-one at us.
“Once you get down, you kind of have to start taking some shots that maybe you wouldn’t [normally] take necessarily.
“I thought we maybe could have drove to the basket more. I wouldn’t say we’re really a team that plays from behind very much. We fought, but they always responded and had an answer.”
This loss echoes a defeat suffered almost a year prior, sparking an impressive winning streak for Iowa. Currently, their chances of clinching the 2024 Big Ten regular-season title have diminished, standing at 12-3 in the league.
With three remaining regular-season games, including a crucial matchup against Ohio State, Iowa aims to rebound.
