Fans confused as Tottenham man Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg knocks over referee

Never get in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s way – and that includes referees.

The Denmark international takes no prisoners and showcased his ruthlessness again as his nation took on Switzerland.

It might have only been a friendly at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, but the Tottenham midifielder didn’t care one jot.

When a loose ball from teammate Jannik Vestergaard rolled towards the ex-Bayern Munich star, he only had one thing on his mind.

Unfortunately, referee Allard Lindhout got in his way.

The pair were set on collision course just outside the penalty area and Hojbjerg had no intention of diverting his run.

The Spurs star knocked Lindhout flying and then dashed away with the ball from the scene of the crime – and didn’t even get a yellow card.

“He just doing what [Cristian] Romero taught him,” joked one football fan.

Others didn’t quite see the funny side as another added: “Do that in Prem you’re finished.”

A third posted: “Referee should have been more aware.”

Many queried whether Hojbjerg should have been booked for the incident but Hojbjerg went unpunished.

Domestically, the Dane has had a tricky season with Tottenham.

He’ll want to ensure he starts for his nation at Euro 2024 but is currently a bit-part player under Ange Postecoglou.

Yves Bissouma and Rodrgio Bentancur are prefered in the No.6 role with Hojbjerg often used off the bench to see games out.

He may yet get another chance as Spurs experienced a tough midfield performance against Fulham.
