‘I might get fired’ – Laura Woods jokes about talkSPORT return after funny gaffe

Laura Woods might be back in our talkSPORT studios sooner than expected after a Freudian slip live on TNT Sports.

Woods is the new face of TNT Sports after joining the sports broadcasters in the summer but old habits die hard for the former talkSPORT star.

While presenting Manchester City‘s Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday night, she got herself in a muddle and gave us a shoutout in the process.

Making her introductions at the start of the show, she said: “The title race takes centre stage as we hit the middle of a mammoth Premier League midweek on talkSPORT.”

Nothing much is missed on social media nowadays and sure enough the moment went viral quickly while Woods addressed her error towards the end of the show in expert fashion.

“There’s more football tomorrow, Liverpool vs Sheffield United and Chelsea against Manchester United,” she said as she concluded the night’s action.

“Don’t forget, you can enjoy it all at once on the brilliant Discovery Plus app, but I might not be there for much longer because I said talkSPORT.

“So they might be firing me pretty soon!

“They’re [talkSPORT] up there so hello guys, I’ll be back with you imminently.”

Speaking to a smiling Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott, she then added: “Shall we talk about Aston Villa? You just can’t get the staff nowadays.”

Don't worry Woodsy, there's always a job for you here

Woods left talkSPORT studios in an emotional farewell last summer where tears were shed.

She had spent three fantastic years with the radio station, building up a fantastic rapport with co-workers and fans alike, as well as Ally McCoist on The Breakfast Show.

Ally McCoist leaves Laura Woods in stitches after he accidentally calls Wilfred Zaha ‘world class’ instead of Mo Salah

Woodsy said in her farewell speech: “There’s just a final couple of things I wanted to say. Whoever gets this job next, whoever has the pleasure of sitting in this chair, I don’t think I realised until I got it the impact you can have on people’s lives.

“That’s been the biggest thing I’ve learnt, the power of this station and this chair and the people you get to work with.

“This job is the best thing you will experience. The people you get to speak to, everywhere you go, this station is just a cut through.”

And while Woods might no longer be part of the talkSPORT team, she is still doing a fantastic job for us because she was right, we DO have a mammoth week of live football here on talkSPORT.

Tonight, you can listen to Liverpool vs Sheffield United and Chelsea vs Manchester United on talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2 respectively.

Then on Saturday, talkSPORT will exclusively broadcast City’s trip to Crystal Palace, who have provided drama in title races before (remember Crystanbul?)

We’ll also provide live coverage of Aston Villa vs Brentford and Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest before the week is up.
