The 2024 BET Awards are kicking off tonight with a dazzling red carpet event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted for the third time by the talented Taraji P. Henson, the ceremony celebrates outstanding achievements in Black entertainment and culture.
Before the awards are handed out, the red carpet is set to be a spectacle of glamour and fashion. Parade will provide a gallery of the most stunning looks as stars like Andra Day, Colman Domingo, DC Young Fly, Devale Ellis, Jay Ellis, Jessica Betts, Ms. Pat, Niecy Nash-Betts, and Saucy Santana strut their stuff.
A star-studded show
Performances promise to be equally spectacular with an exciting lineup including GloRilla, Ice Spice, Latto, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Megan Thee Stallion, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Tanner Adell, Tyla, Victoria Mont, YG Marley, and even Will Smith, who will debut his first new solo song in five years.
Adding to the night’s excitement, Usher is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring his extensive and influential musical career. Usher, who also has four nominations, will join a stellar list of performers including Childish Gambino, Chle, Coco Jones, Keke Palmer, Marsha Ambrosius, and Summer Walker.
This marks Will Smith’s first major awards show performance since his controversial appearance at the 2022 Oscars, where his actions led to a 10-year ban from Academy events. Fans are eager to see him back in action with new music.
Drake leads the nominations this year with seven nods, followed by Nicki Minaj with six. Other top contenders include J. Cole, Sexyy Red, SZA, Mont, and Beyonc, each with five nominations. Not far behind are 21 Savage, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla, and Usher, all with four nominations each.

Among the first to walk the red carpet were Valerie Pettiford, Bobby Jones, Young Dro, Jermaine Dupree, ScarLip, Vedo, Duane Martin, and Ashley Marie Jones. The costumes of each one showed a perfect display of elegance and extravagance.
Colors and sophistication walked hand in hand at the entrance to the Peacock Theater, highlighting the creativity and elegance of the best exponents of Black American culture.
