Mauricio Sulaimn on a MARCA exclusive: 'Ryan Garca attacked every religion and every race'

In an exclusive interview for MARCA USA, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC),Mauricio Sulaimn, spoke about the decision to expel the Mexican-American boxer Ryan Garca from the organization, and was quite concerned about the boxer’s state of health, both physically and mentality.

Sulaimn mentioned that the reason behind Garca’s suspension, despite having previously said that the boxer would not be sanctioned, was that he crossed the line recently in post on X, previously known as Twitter, where he began with a ‘rant’ in which he uttered racist insults to multiple ethnic groups.

The leader of the WBC said “Today Ryan returned with an episode of anger on social networks with accusations and attacks against every religion and every race. This followed by an ongoing and evident life that he is leaving, highly dangerous, in which he has been seen consuming alcohol and most likely other types of substances… He obviously needs immediate help for his mental health and help for a total general evaluation of his health and his life, which is in serious danger.”

Will Ryan Garca be able to return to fight in the WBC?

However, despite Sulaimn’s decision to suspend Garca, the WBC boss opened the door for the super featherweight and lightweight boxer to return one day and participate gain in a fight sanctioned by the organization, although he set conditions.

    Sulaimn mentioned that

would first have to agree to receive help and rehabilitate before fighting again with the WBC. “(Ryan) has to heal. Entering into everything that is necessary for his physical, mental and social rehabilitation, and the offer of help still stands, is simply a way of saying ‘this is it’, he can no longer continue on the Council behaving like this.”

Ryan Garca was the interim WBC lightweight champion in 2021 after beating Luke Campbell for the title in January of that year, which was vacant. His fight against Devin Haney was for the WBC super lightweight title, however, since he did not weigh in prior to the fight, he was not eligible to be champion.
