Twitter Reactions: Pakistan thump UAE to keep Women’s Asia Cup 2024 playoff hopes alive

Pakistan Women toon on United Arab Emirates Women in Match 9 of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium in Dambulla on July 23. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Esha Oza and Theertha Satish could not utilise the powerplay as UAE lost their first wicket in the form of Esha on 29 runs in 6.5 overs. Rinitha Rajith followed suit as Theertha started building the innings and Kavisha Egodage departed scoring two runs.

In the 15th over, Theertha walked back after scoring 40 off 36 balls and after her dismissal, it was all going south for the UAE. Khushi Sharma was the only third batter who scored in double digits as she fetched 12 runs and the middle and lower order crumbled like a pack of cards. Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, and Tuba Hassan dazzled with two wickets each as UAE managed just 103 runs on the board.

While chasing, Pakistan were all over the UAE bowlers. Openers, Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali took the mantle and did not let the opposition crawl back in the game. The duo scored 42 runs in the powerplay itself and played some responsible strokes to not gift their wicket. They stitched 107 runs partnership for the opening wicket as Pakistan won the game by 10 wickets in just 14.1 overs. Feroza and Muneeba remained unbeaten on 62 and 37 respectively.

Pakistan are almost through to playoffs

With this win, Pakistan have solidified their chances of playoffs as they occupy the second place in Group A after India. They have played three games and won two of them comprehensively with a lone loss coming against mighty Indians in their first game of the Women’s Asia Cup T20 2024. They are almost through to the playoffs unless Nepal pull off a miracle in their next game against India.
