Aston Villa pre-season 2024/25: Fixtures and schedule

The excitement is permeating around the West Midlands as Aston Villa prepare for a historic 2024/25 campaign.

For the first time since the competition’s rebranding in 1992, Villa are competing in the Champions League having held on for a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Unai Emery’s impact at Villa Park has been utterly transformative, and Villa’s experience in Europe last season should aid their ability to juggle what’s set to be another demanding schedule next term. The club has been busy on the transfer front acquiring the likes of Ian Maatsen and Amadou Onana, with the addition of the latter filling the void left by Douglas Luiz, who has departed for Juventus.

The club’s pre-season preparations are well underway, and here’s everything you need to know about what they’ve got planned this summer.

Like most Premier League clubs, Villa had players on international duty in June and July. The presence of Euro 2024 and Copa America forced a compromise, and those who enjoyed deep runs at these respective tournaments will miss a big chunk of Villa’s pre-season.

Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa are among those that aren’t expected to play a big part this summer.

Nevertheless, the Villa squad reported for the start of pre-season in the week leading up to their first pre-season game against Walsall on 17 July.

Aston Villa are one of several Premier League clubs heading to the United States this summer. However, the Villans are doing their tour a little differently to their domestic rivals.

Villa have headed out later than the rest and will begin their tour against MLS opposition in the form of Columbus Crew on 28 July (UK time). After departing the state capital of Ohio, Villa travel to the East Coast and face Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig on 1 August (UK time). Their tour concludes with a clash against Club America in Chicago on 3 August.

The Villans also visited the States last summer and were part of the Premier League Summer Series.

Villa’s pre-season kicked off with a pair of convincing 3-0 wins. They first overcame EFL outfit Walsall away from home before toppling Slovakian side Spartak Trnava.

Emery’s men will then play three games out in the States before returning back home to complete their rather hectic summer with two more fixtures ahead of their opening Premier League fixture of the new season away at West Ham on 17 August.

Villa take on Athletic Club in Walsall on 7 August before travelling to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund the week before their season opener in east London.
