Trish Stratus’ road to the WWE

Born Patricia Anne Stratigias on December 18, 1975, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Stratus was drawn to sports and fitness from an early age.

While studying biology and kinesiology at York University, she balanced her academic pursuits with playing soccer and field hockey.

Her foray into fitness modeling began serendipitously while she was working as a receptionist at a local gym.

Stratus’s fitness modeling caught the attention of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), leading to a multi-year contract in 1999.

She began her wrestling career in 2000, debuting on “Sunday Night Heat” under the ring name Trish Stratus.

Initially, she played the role of a valet and manager for the tag team of Test and Prince Albert, later managing Val Venis.

Her in-ring debut came in June 2000 on “SmackDown!,” where she teamed with Test and Prince Albert against the Hardy Boyz and Lita, setting the stage for a memorable feud with Lita.

Despite a series of initial setbacks, Stratus’s determination paid off.

By the end of 2001, she had won the WWF Women’s Championship at the Survivor Series, marking the first of her seven championship reigns.

How Stratus became a WWE star

Stratus’s career in the WWE was marked by several significant storylines and achievements.

Her involvement in a high-profile angle with WWF Chairman Vince McMahon and subsequent feud with his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, elevated her status within the company.

Despite an ankle injury that sidelined her for several months, Stratus remained in the spotlight by hosting “Excess” on TNN.

Throughout her WWE career, Stratus was known for her versatility and resilience.

She was part of numerous memorable feuds, including those with Jazz and Victoria, and even ventured into intergender tag team matches alongside Chris Jericho.

Her prowess in the ring earned her the WWE Women’s Championship five times, cementing her legacy as one of the greatest female wrestlers of all time.

Stratus eventually retired from full-time wrestling in 2006 but has continued to make guest appearances and participate in special matches.

She was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 and was honored as one of the greatest female superstars in the history of “Raw” in 2018.
