talkSPORT sources close to both Liverpool and Manchester City have denied that Luis Diaz has agreed to move to the Etihad.
Shock reports from Spanish outlet El Chiringuito claimed on Tuesday afternoon that Diaz was ready to make a stunning move to City.
It was claimed the Colombia international had agreed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions ahead of a £60million transfer.
But talkSPORT understands that reports are way off the mark and Liverpool do not want to sell him.
Diaz has been linked with a number of other clubs during the transfer window, with reported interested from Barcelona and PSG.
Last season, he certainly gave no indication that his future lay elsewhere than Anfield.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s official eMagazine in October 2023, he reflected on how proud he was of where he was in his journey with the club – and how much he was looking forward to the future.
“The process and progression that I’ve been going through up to the present time is just incredible.
“I’ve really learned a huge amount of things and I’m feeling that more and more all the time, not just in terms of my football but in my decision-making generally. Personally, I also feel in a really good place.
“As for the future, I can see myself winning lots of trophies with this great club, starting with trying to win everything that is up for grabs this season. And doing exactly what I know best, which is playing football, scoring goals, making assists.
“And feeling good on the pitch, feeling happy and enjoying it all, which is the main thing. I think I’ll carry on in the same way, with that same mentality of not getting carried away and keeping my feet on the ground, in the knowledge that the hard work I put in each day will keep improving me.
“I will always try to be someone who is always there to help, not just for my teammates but for everyone in general.”
In a later interview in April 2024, he reiterated his stance on the club.
“The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that,” he stated.
Diaz has been at Liverpool since January 2022, when he signed on a five-year contract from Porto for a reported fee of around £37.5m, with an extra £12.5m in add-ons.
The Atletico Junior graduate had already played in the Colombian league for three seasons, before moving to Porto in 2019.
There he amassed 41 goals in 125 appearances – and has continued to add to his minutes by making himself a regular for the Reds.
He scored 13 goals in 51 appearances for Liverpool last season and already has a total of four trophies to his name with the club.
He helped them to FA Cup and Carabao Cup victory in his first six months with the club and then added a Community Shield to his collection in 2022.
Last season, Liverpool also lifted the Carabao Cup again – although their Premier League challenge fell apart in run-in.
Man City are indeed reportedly looking for a forward player given that they have recently lost Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.
City have already signed one winger this summer – with 20-year-old Savinho making the move from Troyes, although he was on-loan at Girona last season.
Whether left winger Diaz would fit into a squad which already boasts the likes of Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish is a big question.
