Man City in huge injury blow with star forward to miss start of season

Oscar Bobb has dealt Manchester City a huge injury blow with the winger to miss the start of the season, talkSPORT understands.

The 21-year-old has suffered a fracture in his leg and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

It remains unclear how long the Norway international will be out of action for.

Bobb, who has enjoyed a stunning pre-season for the Citizens, is currently being assessed by club doctors.

And it is believed that there is a possibility that the youngster could travel to Barcelona to undergo treatment.

The City academy graduate was tipped to be a key player under Pep Guardiola this campaign following Julian Alvarez’s £81million switch to Atletico Madrid.

He scored twice during the club’s pre-season tour of America, where he found the back of the net against Celtic and Chelsea.

And he was a star performer to help City beat rivals Manchester United in last weekend’s Community Shield triumph.

It was Bobb who provided the assist for Bernardo Silva’s late equaliser to send the game to penalties.

But his injury will come as a huge blow for Guardiola – and City’s fans – just days before their Premier League opener.

City begin the defence of their top-flight title away at Chelsea on Sunday.

Bobb enjoyed a breakthrough season last term, where he chipped in with two goals in 26 matches in all competitions.

His only Premier League goal came away at Newcastle in a thrilling 3-2 win in January.

Latching onto a Kevin De Bruyne through ball in injury time, he expertly evaded goalkeeper Martin Dubravka with a ball roll, before slotting home into the back of the net.

The dramatic goal proved decisive in City winning a fourth Premier League title, as they pipped Arsenal to the title by two points.
