Chelsea express interest in Jadon Sancho but move would hinge on one condition

Chelsea have asked to be kept informed of Jadon Sancho’s situation, talkSPORT understands.

The Manchester United winger has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford before the end of the summer transfer window.

Sancho would have to take a pay cut to make a move to Stamford Bridge possible and the Blues’ main focus is on signing a striker with Victor Osimhen their top target.

United are open to offers for Sancho after he was left out of their squad for Saturday’s defeat at Brighton.

Chelsea are trying to bring their wage bill down in the final week of the transfer window.

This is after making 10 new signings, including Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Sancho’s future at Manchester United has appeared uncertain for a while after falling out last autumn.

The winger hit out at the Dutch boss on social media, leading to him being banished from first team training in August last year.

This came after Ten Hag claimed he didn’t train well enough to be included in their squad for the Premier League away trip to Arsenal, with the winger denying this in a now-deleted post on X.

After months in exile, Sancho left Old Trafford to rejoin Borussia Dortmund on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season.

Despite shining, the 24-year-old returned to Manchester this summer and has played an active part in Ten Hag’s pre-season preparations.

Ten Hag even hinted that the winger could be set for a shock new role playing as a false-nine this term.

However despite playing seven minutes of the Community Shield clash with Man City, Sancho is yet to feature in the Premier League for Manchester United.

Speaking after of the season opener with Fulham, Ten Hag said: “First of all, we need squad depth. This season will be survival of the fittest, but I can only put 20 players in the squad.

“I have to make choices and in the week Jadon had an ear infection and he was not 100 per cent fit for this.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand urges fans to back off Jadon Sancho and give him credit for his rebuild at Borussia Dortmund

“He could play but we made choices and we chose that we preferred other players on the bench.

“But that can change and it will change, definitely, in the season where we have to rotate because we can’t play every game with the same.

“You saw today how important subs are – we need the right bench and the right balance and that is frustrating for the player.

“But it’s about the team and the club and there will be more players who will in this position but we expect them to fight for the club.

“We have so many games to play and everyone will have minutes and you have to prove yourself.”
