Siassi Honored as ASUN Defensive Player of the Week – University of North Florida Athletics

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida women’s soccer’s Zara Siassi collected her third-ever ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor as announced by the league office Monday, Aug. 26.

“Zara day in and day out churns out consistent performances in our backline” head coach Eric Faulconer said. “She is well deserving of the Defensive Player of the Week ASUN honor and I am happy to see her receive this recognition.”

The Ospreys earned back-to-back selections for ASUN weekly awards, with freshman Allison Souers receiving Player of the Week honors last week after scoring the game-winning goal against Miami, Aug. 15.

Siassi totaled 180 minutes over the last two games, playing the full 90 against Florida and Alabama A&M. The UNF veteran was instrumental in keeping clean sheets against the Gators and Bulldogs.

Out of the first four matches, Siassi has helped the Ospreys manage three shutouts, against Miami, Florida and Alabama A&M. She has started all 66 games of her UNF career and has led the team in minutes played (non-GK) for the past two seasons.

UNF continues a five-match stretch at Hodges Stadium, welcoming former ASUN foe Kennesaw State to town Thursday, Aug. 29 with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
