Dak Prescott wins extension game: Quarterback nabs $240 million deal with Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys fans can finally stop holding their breath as Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones have agreed on a four-year extension worth $240 million just hours ahead of the team’s first regular season game.

Prescott is now the higest-paid quarterback in NFL history

News of the contract agreement was first reported by NFL Network during their Game Day Live show ahead of Sunday’s games in Week 1.

According to reports, Prescott’s deal includes $231 million guaranteed and an astonishing $80 million signing bonus.

The deal, which keeps the veteran quarterback with America’s Team until 2028, will see Prescott earning $60 million per year, making him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow all earn an average of $55 million per year.

Prescott has been with the Cowboys since the 2016 NFL Draft when he was selected in the fourth round.

This is also his second extension with Dallas after a four-year $160 million deal back in 2021.

    Cowboys betting big on Prescott

Entering his ninth season in the NFL, Prescott’s extension guarantees that he will remain as the cornerstone of the Cowboys’ offense for years to come, giving him further opportunities to achieve his ultimate goal: winning a Super Bowl in Dallas.

Prescott has long emphasized that while financials are a necessary aspect of the business side of football, his motivations lie elsewhere.

“I’ve never played the game for that,”Prescott remarked during an interview.

“I’ve played the game for the pure love for the guys in that locker room. There’s something special about this game, and we’re just blessed that money comes with it. But that doesn’t motivate me.”

The three-time Pro Bowler and 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year has consistently voiced his desire to retire as a Cowboy, and this latest extension brings him one step closer to that goal.
