Dolphins DT claims police detained him along with Tyreek Hill

Two key Miami Dolphins players nearly missed the start of Sunday’s 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars after run-ins with the police.

Receiver Tyreek Hill was stopped on his drive to Hard Rock Stadium for a minor traffic incident and briefly detained by Miami-Dade police. Video of the incident went viral as Hill was shown lying on the ground in handcuffs, though he was released not long after.

As the incident was unfolding, Hill’s teammate Calais Campbell tried to help out and was subsequently detained as well. The All-Pro defensive tackle gave his side of the story to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network after the game.

“Actually, they put handcuffs on me too and I was like, ‘What is going on?’” Campbell said. “I didn’t understand what the issue was, and for him to put handcuffs on me I felt was some kind of way. … That was a first. Being 17 years in this game, I don’t really see a lot of firsts.”

Campbell then elaborated on the situation.

“But I saw Tyreek getting apprehended, I just wanted to make sure everything was OK, tried to deescalate the situation, the officer felt some kind of way, put handcuffs on me and then I just told myself, ‘Don’t let this get you down, stay focused, stay locked in and just do what you prepared to do.’”
