    Monarchs Outpaced by Salisbury – Methodist University Athletics

    SALISBURY, Md.  Challenged by a tough Salisbury squad, the Methodist women’s soccer team fell 4–1 on Saturday at the Salisbury University Classic. The Monarchs were outshot 15–9 during their first loss of the season.

    HOW IT HAPPENED

    • Salisbury’s Ashley Pantano made a first–half statement, scoring in the 16th minute and again inside the 27th minute. Just before the 36th minute, Methodist goalkeeper Carolina Simpkins made her third save of the half, but moments later, the Monarchs conceded their third goal of the period.
    • Simpkins produced another save 33 seconds into the second half. Less than a minute later, the Seagulls successfully tacked on their fourth goal of the match.
    • Methodist fired off a greater amount of shots in the second half, but was still contained to some extent, placing just three shots on goal during the first 35 minutes of the second half.  Finally, inside the 81st minute, Methodist newcomer C’nya Stevens found the back of the net to get her team on the board, marking her first goal as a Monarch.

     
    NUMBERS

    • Corrine Shovlain was Methodist’s leading attacker on offense, attempting three shots which were all on goal.
    • The Monarchs showed more discipline than their opponent, drawing only two fouls while Salisbury players fouled 13 times.
    • Simpkins faced 10 shots on goal, making six saves in total.
