The consensus among many social media users after Sunday’s broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys-Cleveland Browns game on Fox was that Tom Brady had some work to do to be as good of a broadcaster as he was a quarterback.
Though he’s since walked his comments back, Scott Hanson of “NFL RedZone” was among Brady’s biggest critics, as were several other well-known people in NFL circles, including The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand and Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina.
But surprisingly, someone who was a fan of Brady’s debut was his former head coach, Bill Belichick, who gave Brady strong reviews on a recent episode of the “Let’s Go!” podcast.
“I thought Tom was great,” Belichick said. “I think that he had a lot better day when Dallas went to Cleveland than I had in my first game in Cleveland when Dallas came in … I thought Tom did great. I thought he brought up a lot of great points in the game. Certainly the number of times Cleveland went backwards, he continued to highlight.”
While Brady seemed to appear more comfortable as Sunday’s game went on, few would argue it started out a bit rough. To make matters worse, Fox demoted Greg Olsen to the No. 2 analyst role to make room for Brady — a decision that was met with hostility given how good Olsen is at his job.
