Very happy with the way Akash Deep is progressing: Jasprit Bumrah

India ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah hailed Akash Deep after the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. After a terrific debut, in which he picked up a three-for against England earlier in the year, Akash went on to do well in the Duleep Trophy as well, which helped the Bengal pacer get into India’s squad for the Bangladesh series. In the series, he gave crucial breakthroughs and picked up five wickets in two matches, which also impressed India captain Rohit Sharma.

Bumrah meanwhile pointed out that Akash is always willing to learn and brings a lot of energy with him while bowling. He added that Akash gives his all on the field and that he always had interesting conversations about bowling with the cricketer.

“Yeah, he comes up to me quite a lot. You know, before a spell, he asks me what is happening. What do you think I should do? So we’ve had a lot of interesting conversations. With the energy he brings onto the ball, he gives his absolute best on the field and as well as when he’s bowling,” Bumrah told the broadcaster.

“So he’s got a lot of heart. So that’s a great sign for us going forward as well. And whenever he comes into bowling he gives his absolute best. So yes, I’m very happy with the way he’s progressing and hopefully, he goes from strength to strength,” he added.

Akash can do the job the team is expecting: Rohit

Captain Rohit was also full of praise for Akash after the game. He noted that the cricketer has done well in domestic cricket as well and mentioned that he has all it takes to do well in the national team. He also added that Akash has a good physique and can bowl long spells, which is essential in Test cricket.

“He’s been good. Lot of domestic cricket he has played. When you come up through the ranks like that, there are a lot of overs in the legs. We know the guy can do the job the team is expecting. He has the quality and the skill. Good body as well – can bowl long spells and can bowl quick as well. That’s what the idea is. We want to create a bunch of bowlers who are ready to play,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.
