Packers WR Romeo Doubs addresses suspension, has regrets

Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs spoke to the media on Friday for the first time since he was suspended by Green Bay for conduct detrimental the team.

Doubs missed two days of practice and meetings prior to the team’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, resulting in the Packers suspending him.

When opening up about the situation with reporters, Doubs expressed regret and wished he had handled things differently in terms of communicating with the team.

“I had some things going on mentally. I do not feel comfortable getting too deep into that. Just you guys, hearing it from me, there are some things I have going on for myself. I did my best communicating and I’m just thankful that I’m here right now, able to still play ball. … I absolutely wish I would’ve handled things differently.”

Doubs also denied a report that his frustration was over his role in the offense and offered no additional comment.

“It’s a great offense here, got some ballplayers in our room. It’s much bigger than just me individually finding my role. In this league it’s just winning football games … [The situation’s] not as big as they think it is. I know narratives are always created and just hearing it from me, it wasn’t that big of a deal.

“I’d say there was some things going on off the field. As far as just the organization and the (coaching) staff, the players, there’s nothing going on within that area. So I just want to make myself clear there.”

Doubs is in his third year in the NFL, and entering play this week, he has 12 catches (on 20 targets) for 169 yards and no touchdowns. He had a small breakout season in 2023, catching 59 passes for 674 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Packers play the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see how involved he is in the offense and how many passes go his way.
