Three Monarchs Earn Weekly USA South Honors – Methodist University Athletics

ROME, Ga.  The USA South Athletic Conference announced its latest Athletes of the Week on Monday, with three Methodist student–athletes receiving recognition for their athletic accomplishments. Kelsey Burge and Brooke Hunter of the women’s soccer team and Jaelan Pile of the football team all garnered honors.

Burge becomes the back–to–back Women’s Soccer Player of the Week after scoring the game–winning goal in her team’s regular–season finale over North Carolina Wesleyan University. The senior netted her goal in the fifth minute of play, and the score held to give the Monarchs a 1–0 victory.

Hunter earns the first Women’s Soccer Defender of the Week title of her career. In the win over North Carolina Wesleyan, the sophomore was part of the backline that held the Battling Bishops scoreless. Not only that, Hunter and the Methodist defense didn’t allow a single shot on goal for the full 90 minutes of play.

Pile was named Football Offensive Rookie of the Week for his performance versus Brevard College. He caught the first touchdown of his collegiate career on Saturday, recording a 71–yard score against the Tornados. It was one of two receptions made by the freshman, totaling a career–high 83 yards.
