Five Monarchs Garner Women’s Soccer All–Conference Accolades – Methodist University Athletics

ROME, Ga.  Five members of the Methodist women’s soccer team appeared on the All–Conference roster released by the USA South Athletic Conference on Tuesday. Among those earning accolades were goalkeeper Carolina Simpkins, defenders Alexa Armour, Amanda DeDomenico and Brooke Hunter, and forward Kelsey Burge. Representing the Monarchs on the league’s All–Sportsmanship team was senior Charly Oldham.

Cracking the First Team for the second time in her career, Simpkins had another stellar year in net, posting 47 saves with a save percentage of .825. In 11 starts, the junior from Sanford, N.C. recorded six shutouts and a record of 7–4–0. She conceded just 10 goals in 990 minutes played, totaling a .910 goals allowed average.

Armour was the other Monarch to garner a spot on the First Team. She played in all 15 regular–season matches, making 10 starts. The freshman from Columbus, N.J. made her presence felt on the backline, contributing to a defense that allowed just four goals in nine USA South matches.

DeDomenico earned her third All–Conference recognition, making the Second Team this time around. The senior from Howell, N.J. was one of just two Monarchs to start all 15 games, helping her team limit opponents to just 1.71 goals per game.

Having also made an impact on the Methodist backline, Hunter was named to the Honorable Mention squad. The sophomore from Woodbine, Md. played in all 15 games, making 14 starts. Not only did she play great defense all season, but she also scored a goal in the 3–1 victory over Pfeiffer University.

Burge also earned Honorable Mention status as the leading goal scorer for the Monarchs. The senior from Hope Mills, N.C. started all 15 contests and found the back of the net on six occasions. She attempted 23 shots on the season, with 13 of those being on target (for a shot–on–goal percentage of .565).
