It’s Election Day, so make sure you get out there and vote:
I’ve voted three times already.
Delicious!
Today’s post will be short to the point of worthlessness, and while I’m using election day as a pretense, it’s mostly just because I’m lazy. However, I cannot overstate the importance of your vote. This is perhaps the most crucial election of our lifetimes, because as I understand it, if [candidate] doesn’t win then [other candidate] will destroy the country.
This is why I’m proud to announce that I’m officially endorsing [candidate]:
It’s the only reasonable choice.
As for US presidents and bicycles, while many have been photographed astride them, and even fallen off them, as far as I know there are only two who might actually be considered cyclists. (Though I’m happy to be corrected on that, History Freds!) The first was Woodrow Wilson, whose brother was a hardcore Pennyfarthing Fred, though Woody himself was more of a “woosie” and eventually took to it after the advent of the safety bicycle:
The second of course was noted mountain bike enthusiast George W. Bush:
Again, as far as I know that’s about it, though I’m happy to be corrected. Also, there is a fixie named after Calvin Coolidge for some reason, though I don’t think he rode:
And to date there’s only one US president who’s not only sponsored a major stage race…
…but also pledged never to ride a bicycle.
He also pledged never to enter a bicycle race after John Kerry’s bike crash in 2015, though until he says otherwise I’ll assume sponsoring one again isn’t off the table.
As for Kamala Harris and bicycles, the Internet’s got nothing, though a toe clip very nearly installed her as President:
Speaking of vintage race bikes, the Fagginator is rolling again after yesterday’s brake debacle (debrakle?):
How did I solve the problem?
By using two different brakes:
I did take the barrel adjuster from the Ultegra brake though, so at least they’re wearing the same hat.
Eventually I’ll put that brake back together, just like [candidate] surely will with the country once elected.
