GREENWOOD, Ind. On Tuesday, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its 2024 Academic All-District teams for women’s soccer. Methodist University women’s soccer was heavily represented by six honorees: Kelsey Burge, Mary Herndon, Emily Hoyt, Charly Oldham, Camaryn Piper, and Carolina Simpkins. This is the second consecutive year that Burge, Piper, and Simpkins have been named to the CSC All-District team.
Burge, a senior, had a career year in her final season as a Monarch. The Hope Mills, North Carolina, native earned USA South Honorable Mention All-Conference honors after she recorded seven goals (career-high). Four of those goals were the game-winners, which not only led the team but was also tied for the most in the conference.
Herndon, a junior, started 12 of the 19 matches that she appeared in this season for Methodist. Primarily a defensive midfielder, the Spotsylvania, Virginia, product assisted on one goal in 2024.
Hoyt, a sophomore, saw action in all 19 matches, with six starts, during her second year with the Monarchs. From Bowie, Maryland, she recorded two goals on six shots.
Oldham, a senior from South Brunswick, North Carolina, started 12 of the 19 matches that she appeared in during her last season with Methodist.
Piper, a junior, played in all 19 contests, with 13 starts, for the Monarchs. Mainly known for her efforts on defense, the Jacksonville, North Carolina, native had her best offensive performance in the USA South Tournament title game, scoring a career-high two goals. Not only did she help Methodist secure a championship, but she was also named the MVP of the tournament.
Simpkins, a junior, was once again one of the best goalkeepers in the USA South, earning First Team All-Conference laurels in back-to-back seasons. Hailing from Sanford, North Carolina, she led the league in goalie victories (10) and shutouts (9). Her 0.94 goals against average and .829 save percentage were also the second-best marks in the conference.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Women’s Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women’s soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Select Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on December 11, 2024.
