Mike Tyson’s fight against Jake Paul not only was poor as a spectacle, many expressed their disappointment at seeing a boxing legend in the ring at 58 years of age in an image that erases the memory of his best times. But having an idea of what they have earned could bring some temptation to agree to a fight, and it is what the former NBA player, Charles Barkley, would be willing to do.
It is said that ‘The Problem Child’ pocketed $40 million for the fight, and in one of the latest episodes of the podcast ‘The Steam Room’, a listener proposed Barkley to face Jake Paul for $25 million.
Faced with this idea, Ernie Johnson asked Barkley if he would fight Mike Tyson for any amount and Chuck replied: “I’ll beat up Mike Tyson… You give me 40 million dollars,” although he seriously said that he didn’t like that the fight took place and added: “An old man can’t beat a young man, I’m glad he didn’t get hurt, but he also took a lot of punches. It may not be now, but at some point, there will be some damage to his brain. He made $20 million, that’s not worth it.”
Barkley continued with his annoyance at seeing Iron Mike in the ring, because he does not like to see an old man get beaten up, although back in a good mood, he acknowledged that for $40 million he would be willing to put on the gloves against Tyson: “I would give him some body shots.”
How much money did Mike Tyson make for his fight vs Jake Paul?
The first reports indicated that the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight would have a joint purse of around $80 million, but Jake Paul was said to have taken home more money than the two, with $40 million.
Mike Tyson reportedly had a guaranteed purse of $20 million, although most likely after the numbers the fight did, he could have taken home more money than was assured to the former world heavyweight champion.
