World Relays mixed 4x400m bronze medallist, Rhasidat Adeleke of Ireland has been named the Irish Athlete of the Year at a colorful ceremony held in Ireland.
The 22 year-old broke several Irish records, including the 60m, 200m, and 300m indoors, as well as the 100m and 400m outdoors.
Adeleke also played a pivotal role in helping the Irish team, won silver in both the 400m and the women’s 4x400m at the Europeans in June, along with gold in the mixed 4x400m.
Her crowning moment nearly came at the Paris Olympics, where she put in a valiant effort to finish fourth in the individual 400m final. She also teamed up with Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, and Sharlene Mawdsley in the 4x400m relay, where they finished fourth, setting a new Irish record of 3:19.90, just 0.18 seconds away from a medal.
Adeleke was also awarded the Sprint & Hurdles Athlete of the Year.
