Salter will be a fifth-year senior. He had his best season in 2023 while leading the Flames to the Fiesta Bowl, going 177-of-290 (61 percent) for 2,876 yards (9.9 yards per attempt), 32 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also had 163 carries, 1,089 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
Shedeur Sanders is headed for the 2025 NFL Draft, where he’s expected to be among the top players selected.
The NCAA’s all-time completion percentage leader has been excellent in two seasons at Colorado, completing 71.8 percent of his passes and throwing for 7,156 yards. His 62 passing touchdowns are two shy of setting the record for most in program history.
The Buffaloes also have incoming four-star quarterback recruit Julian Lewis headed to Boulder. However, adding Salter gives Deion a quarterback who can start immediately while Lewis studies underneath him.
Salter has a tough act to follow, but the veteran has the tools to keep Colorado near the top of the Big 12 standings in 2025. And with his rushing ability, he adds a dimension at quarterback the Buffaloes lacked with Sanders.
His addition is another sign that Deion Sanders doesn’t plan to leave Boulder. Colorado made a transfer portal splash earlier this week when it added ESPN’s top-ranked defensive player, lineman Jehiem Oatis. Deion later appeared on “The Pacman Jones Show” and said, “I love Boulder, Colorado.”
“I have every intention, every plan in the world to be coaching for the Colorado Buffs from here on… I want to put my flag down in Colorado,” the Pro Football Hall of Famer and two-time Super Bowl champion added. (h/t Sports Illustrated)
That hasn’t stopped speculation about a potential leap to the NFL. On Wednesday, league insider Jeremy Fowler wrote about what a league source recently told him.
“I think [NFL] teams will want to hear what he has to say,” the source told Fowler.
“So it wouldn’t shock to see the Jets or Saints or a team casting a wide net to at least reach out or do its research on him,” Fowler wrote.
Teams might call, but with Colorado’s strong incoming 2025 transfer portal class, Sanders has little incentive to leave.
