The Detroit Lions have had perhaps the best one-two running back punch this season with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. But going forward, the dynamic duo will be reduced to a solo act with a knee injury against the Buffalo Bills ending Montgomery’s season. Despite ceding 185 carries to Montgomery, Gibbs is still sixth in the NFL with 1,047 rushing yards on 186 totes of his own. Now, the second year back will be getting the Lion’s share of the backfield work.
“We have a lot of confidence in Gibbs,’ Detroit head coach Dan Campbell said, per Josh Alper of PFT. “He’s continued to get better and better as the season has gone. Given the opportunity, he’s made a lot of plays.”
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Gibbs has been the perfect speedy and shifty complement to the downhill power running style of Montgomery since Detroit drafted him from Alabama in the 2023 NFL Draft.
