Commanders overcome five turnovers, rally to stun Eagles

It is extremely rare for an NFL team to have five turnovers in a game. It is even more rare for an NFL team to have those five turnovers and still win the game.

Washington joined the Detroit Lions in being the second team this season to accomplish that feat as they came away with an improbable, comeback, 36-33 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Due to a head injury, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts left the game early in the first quarter and did not return. Kenny Pickett played the remainder of the game for Philadelphia. Pickett threw for 143 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Saquon Barkley ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter, but the Washington defense would limit Barkley to just 41 more yards for the remainder of the game.

A.J. Brown was Philadelphia’s leading receiver with eight catches for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Washington scored a go-ahead touchdown with six seconds remaining on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels to Jamison Crowder. Crowder finished the game with two catches for 15 yards and two touchdowns.

Daniels’ touchdown passes to Crowder were two of five on the day for the rookie quarterback. Daniels was also the Commanders’ leading rusher with nine carries for 81 yards.

To the surprise of many, former Eagles receiver Olamide Zaccheaus was Washington’s leading receiver on the day with five catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Star receiver Terry McLaurin collected five catches for 60 yards and a touchdown. The win for Washington was its 10th this season, and the first time they’ve won 10 games since the 2012 season.

McLaurin spoke after the game and talked about what the team’s mindset was and never losing focus despite the turnovers.

The five turnovers for Washington are something it will certainly have to limit over the final two games and heading into the postseason.

Running back Brian Robinson Jr. had two fumbles and Daniels threw two interceptions. That is something that will need to be cleaned up for Washington to win its first playoff game since 2006.
