Tyreek Hill’s post-game comments indicate he wants out of Dolphins organization

The Miami Dolphins (8-9) just barely missed out on the playoffs this season, finishing 10th in the AFC after entering Week 18 in eighth place.

But despite clawing back into the postseason conversation after multiple injuries hampered the roster, one star player appears to want out of Miami.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill told reporters after the team’s 32-20 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday that he’s “opening the door” on his career whether he continues in with the Dolphins or elsewhere.

“I’m out bro,” Hill said (h/t The Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly). “It was great playing here but at the end of the day I gotta do what’s best for my career.”

Speculation flooded the internet over whether Hill was serious about leaving until he seemed to confirm his intentions with a post on X shortly after.

The final straw for Hill appeared to be when he realized that Miami’s chances of making the playoffs were shot during the game.

He told reporters he looked up at the scoreboard and saw Kansas City was losing late, alluding to that being why he pulled himself from playing with a supposed wrist injury. A Chiefs victory paired with a Dolphins win would’ve seen Miami into the final AFC playoff spot.

Hill finished the year with 939 yards and just six touchdowns, only the second time in his career he’s accrued under 1,000 receiving yards. It should be noted starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed five games with a concussion suffered in Week 2 and did not play Weeks 17 or 18 either.

“It sucks, man, missing QB1, man,” Hill said about why this season was disappointing. “It really hurts a lot.”

Head coach Mike McDaniel said in his post-game news conference that he was informed Hill made himself unavailable in the fourth quarter and decided to continue calling plays with who was (h/t ESPN’s Marcel Lewis-Jacques).

It’s too early to tell if Hill will request a trade or release from the team. His current contract runs through the 2026-27 season and there is no escape hatch until after next season.

Nevertheless, teams and fans alike will be monitoring the situation with great interest as Hill is still a playmaker who can boost an offense exponentially.
