Quinn Ewers stands firm on his decision about his future and will make a relevant announcement soon

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has officially decided to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, according to a report by NFL Rookie Watch. After a rollercoaster junior season, Ewers will forgo another year of college eligibility and a potential transfer to enter the pros.

Ewers’ 2024 season was a mixed bag. While he led the Longhorns to a 13-3 record, including a College Football Playoff (CFP) semifinal appearance, his performance was marred by inconsistencies.

He threw for 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns, but his 12 interceptions and inability to rise in critical games, such as the SEC Championship loss to Georgia, left many questioning his readiness for the NFL.

In key matchups, Ewers‘ decision-making and pocket awareness came under fire. His struggles against elite defenses, including a season-high six sacks and two interceptions in the SEC title game, fueled criticism from fans and analysts alike. Backup Arch Manning’s rise only added to the scrutiny, with calls for the freshman to take over as Texas’ starter.

NFL scouts split on Ewers’ potential

Despite his underwhelming final season, Ewers remains a player of intrigue. His arm strength, flashes of brilliance, and experience in high-pressure games give him a foundation to build upon. However, his draft stock is currently low, with many analysts projecting him as a late second-round pick or later.

“When I talk to NFL teams … landslide, [they say Quinn Ewers] needs to grad transfer. He has talent but needs refinement, and another college season could have done wonders,” NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay.

Ewers’ decision to bypass opportunities to transfer-potentially to programs such as Notre Dame, Alabama, or Ohio State – has sparked further debate. Reports indicated he turned down a lucrative $6 million NIL deal from an unnamed college program, opting instead to test his luck in the NFL.

Ewers will now face the challenge of proving himself in pre-draft workouts. His draft projection hinges on his ability to impress scouts with his physical tools, football IQ, and ability to handle the pro game’s demands.
