2025 winter transfer window: Every done deal from the Championship

For many, the Championship is the best league in the world – and with good reason. Once again this year at the halfway stage, we have a title tussle, an unclear play-off picture and a frantic fight to avoid the drop.

More excitement is set to come the way of fans of second-tier clubs as the January transfer window opens for business. Running until 11pm on Monday 3rd February, it is a chance for all 24 teams to bolster their ranks ahead of the critical stages of the campaign.

The likes of Leeds United and Sheffield United are set to scrap for the Championship title, though Burnley are hot on their heels looking to steal an automatic promotion slot for themselves.

At the other end, Plymouth Argyle look doomed, so may require some inspired business over the next month, while newbies Oxford United and Portsmouth are among those battling for Championship survival after testing returns to the second tier.

Scott Parker’s Burnley have been the most active side in the Championship early on in the window, with two incomings in the first couple of days.

One is a familiar face in Ashley Barnes, who re-joined the club after ending his contract at Norwich. The Austria international is something of a promotion specialist, so could be a handy addition to Parker’s side.

The other arrival has seen Denmark-born Peruvian Oliver Sonne join from Danish outfit Silkeborg in a deal worth around €3m (£2.5m). The full-back bolsters a Clarets defence that has conceded just nine goals in the Championship all season.

Norwich City saw a handful of players depart Carrow Road in the first half of January, with the Carrow Road side reacting by bringing in winger Matej Jurasek and centre-midfielder Anis Slimane for just over £7m combined.

Ashley Barnes recently agreed to end his contract by mutual consent as he sealed a return to former club Burnley, while Christian Fassnacht has secured a move to Young Boys, who are currently struggling in the Swiss top flight and the Champions League.

The Canaries’ form has been up and down so far, and thus sit in mid-table at the halfway point. They are not a million miles off the play-off places, and a fresh injection of talent into the squad may help stage a surge into the top six.
