The mystery surrounding drones spotted over New Jersey has been clarified by President Donald Trump, who revealed they were authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for research purposes.
These sightings, which began in November, included drones flying near military bases and over Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, fueling fears of foreign surveillance and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s press secretary, explained in a statement that the drones involved a combination of government-approved research activities, hobbyists, and private operators. While Leavitt assured the public the drones did not pose a threat, she withheld specifics about who was conducting the research or what the studies entailed.
“This was not the enemy,” she emphasized.
Public doubt grows despite Government explanation
The sightings initially caused widespread alarm, with eyewitness reports describing “car-sized” drones equipped with green and red lights.
Thousands of sightings were reported across New Jersey and surrounding areas, prompting federal agencies to launch an investigation. Congressional meetings in December addressed the growing concerns, while the FBI revealed it had received over 3,000 reports in a single week. Both the FBI and U.S. military denied involvement in the drone flights.
On December 16, federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and the FAA, issued a joint statement attributing the drones to lawful commercial, recreational, and law enforcement activities. The statement concluded that the activity posed no risk to public safety or national security.
Despite the explanation, skepticism remains high. Trump pledged to dig deeper into the issue during his administration, asking his chief of staff, Susie Wiles, to investigate.
“Could we find out what that was, Susie? Why don’t we find out immediately?” Trump remarked.
Reports of new sightings have persisted, with New Jersey mayors and Senator Chuck Schumer calling for further transparency. Belleville Mayor Michael Melham highlighted ongoing public concern.
“Our residents are still gravely concerned over what’s flying just over our homes.”
With drone sightings now extending into Long Island, many Americans continue to demand definitive answers.
