Karsten Warholm kick starts his season in China with a double appearance – Athletics News

World 400m hurdles record holder, Karsten Warholm will launch his Wanda Diamond League season with appearances at the Xiamen and Shanghai/Keqiao meetings on April 26 and May 3, in China.

The 28 year-old will launch his bid to regain the Diamond Trophy with back-to-back appearances in China at the opening two meetings of the 2025 Wanda Diamond League season.

Warholm will race at both the season opener in Xiamen and the Shanghai/Keqiao meeting, as he looks to make an explosive start to the new Diamond League campaign.

The Norwegian superstar holds the world record with a time of 45.94 and has seen his one-time dominance challenged in recent years as he and rivals Alison Dos Santos and Rai Benjamin have pushed each other to ever more unfathomable speeds in the one-lap hurdles.

He is the 2019 and 2021 Diamond League champion and will be hoping to launch another bid and claim his first series title in four years when he returns to athletics’ premier one-day series this year.

The series will be a key indicator of form as he prepares to defend his world title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.

“I’m really looking forward to racing in front of my Chinese fans,” said Warholm, who has not appeared at either Xiamen or Shanghai/Keqiao until this season.

Athletes compete for points at the 14 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, which will be held in Zurich on 27th and 28th August 2025.
