In 2019, Armstead founded the Armstead Academic Project (AAP), an initiative aimed at providing students of all socioeconomic backgrounds with the resources they need to succeed. The project focuses on improving literacy rates and offering academic support, particularly in underserved communities.

A very important honor

Since moving to Jacksonville, Armstead has continued his charitable work, participating in programs like the EverBank Touchdowns for Tomorrow, which emphasizes financial literacy, and Blessings in a Backpack, a nonprofit that provides food for school-aged children in need. Through these efforts, Armstead has directly impacted the lives of over 516,500 youth and contributed more than $2 million to various causes.

Upon receiving the award, Armstead expressed his deep gratitude and emphasized the importance of using his platform to create real change. “Receiving the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is an incredible honor-one that goes beyond football,” Armstead said. “This award represents the power of service, the responsibility to uplift others, and the impact we can create through education.”

The award ceremony, held during the NFL Honors event on the eve of Super Bowl LIX, celebrated Armstead’s achievements and his unwavering dedication to making a difference. His recognition as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year serves as a testament to his character and commitment to the community, inspiring both fans and fellow players alike. As the Jaguars continue their journey in the NFL, Armstead’s legacy of service and philanthropy will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, both on and off the field.
